Lupus is an autoimmune condition that can damage almost any organ in a child's body. "Autoimmune" indicates that the immune system perceives the body as foreign and attacks it. Lupus is known as Neuropsychiatric Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (NPSLE) or Central Nervous System (CNS) lupus when it affects the brain, spinal cord, or other nerves.
